When I started this blog, I really wanted it to be successful. I love writing and traveling, so I thought it would be so cool if I were to become one of those influencers paid to travel and blog. What I didn’t realize is it’s not that easy, and that actually isn’t the life I want to live. Monetizing your blog is more than just writing and having people like it so much they follow along. These days, you can’t just blog, you have to be active in all realms of social media. Your followers have to know your voice, face, style, personality, what you eat for breakfast, EVERYTHING! I’m not into that.
As with any job, there are aspects you’re not going to like. For me, those things weren’t worth it. I want to be able to write whenever I want, without having to be regimented and stuck to a brand. I want to be able to write about whatever I want rather than having to fit into a niche. I want to be able to write without posting to a million social media sites hoping to get likes and views.
Well, I’m giving all of that up. I will write about my life for whoever wants to read. I will write because it is a hobby of mine and a way of expressing myself. I will post to social media only if I feel like it, from my personal social media account.
Some of you probably didn’t even realize I was writing for others or trying to stick to a brand. When I started this blog, I wanted to be able to help others in similar situations, who needed advice on moving abroad. I do still hope those people somehow find the blog, but it is no longer the sole purpose of my writing. From now on, I am blogging for me.
